PSYCHOLOGY: A ROAD TOWARDS PEACE AND DEMOCRACY
DAYS LEFT

HISTORY

In 2003, a group of psychology professionals requested from SIP that Guatemala be permited to host a Congress in 2005. The SIP directors decided to sponsor a smaller congress and it granted Guatemala the right to serve as the location for a Regional congress (Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean). So, in October of 2004, the FIRST REGIONAL CONGRESS of the Inter-American Society of Psychology took place. It was a successful congress, with 181 presentations and 458 registered participants from 14 countries of the Americas.

In order to host an Interamerican Congress of Psychology in Guatemala, the creation of a legal entity was required. Therefore, the executive committee organizing the congress initiated the process in May, 2004, under the name of SIP Association/Guatemala Chapter; the head of this committee, functioning as the Congress President, was appointed as legal representative.

At the present time the SIP Association/Guatemala Chapter, in its third year, undertakes academic activities from a psychological perspective that revolve around themes pertaining to Guatemala's social reality. Moreover, the SIP Association/Guatemala Chapter is organizing the XXXII Interamerican Congress of Psychology that will take place in 2009.
